Erin Petersen, MS, PAS

Erin Petersen was born and raised in Loveland, Colorado. She earned a BA degree in Political Science from The University of Colorado in 1994. She also holds a BS degree in Equine Science from Colorado State University (2000). Petersen remained at Colorado State University, earning an MS degree in Animal Science in 2001. Her research focus was aimed at investigating nutrition of the growing horse with faculty advisor, Dr. Paul Siciliano.

Petersen's teaching responsibilities in the Institute of Applied Agriculture include Pasture Management/Hay Production (INAG 116), Equine Nutrition and Nutrient Management (INAG 117), Equine Health Management (INAG 120), Equine Behavior (INAG 122), and Equine Reproduction Management (INAG 233). She also assists in the teaching of equine related lectures and labs offered by the Department of Animal and Avian Sciences. Ms. Petersen is also co-advisor for the University of Maryland Equestrian Club.

Petersen's extension program is designed around providing up-to-date equine information to Maryland's horse owners including seminars, presentations and publications.

Petersen's research interests include nutrition and bone development in young horses and nutrition of the emaciated horse.
